The Musketeers of Pig Alley
The Musketeers of Pig Alley was a 1912 silent film that was 17 minutes long. Produced by D. W. Griffith and starred Lillian Gish, Elmer Booth, Lionel Barrymore, Harry Carey, and Robert Harron. It is known as the very first gangster film in history!
The movie was initially supposed to be released October 31, 1912, but ended up releasing November 5, 1915. They filmed the movie in New York City, and reportedly used actual street gang members as extras during the film.
After this film was produced there have been numerous gangster films created. Ranging from The Godfather, to GoodFellas.
