World War I
Took place in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, China, and the coast of South and North America. More than 9 million combatants were killed.
What triggered the war was the assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria on June 28, 1914.
After the war 4 major imperial powers ceased to exist. Formations of new countries in Europe and the Middle East took place afterwards too. This event also lead to the establishment on the League of Nations.
